Why People Say “You Suck” When You Mess Up

That was a day in October of 2008 when I first met him. Inside that room in Bauan General Hospital, my wife is shouting in pain. My heart is pumping hard in anxiety and excitement. The exact time is 11:11 AM when finally, my worries ended. My heart is now filled with joy. A sucker just came out of the world. Lo and behold, here comes our son Utoy.

Compared to adults, babies know a lot less, of course. There are just a few things that the Creator has programmed in a baby’s brain. Most of those are just enough for survival. The two most notable talents that babies have are crying and sucking.

The baby’s first cry is it’s first gasp of air. That first cry is a sign that its lungs are working well. After that, it is the newborn’s alarm system to alert the parents of its needs. The messaging is simple, a baby cries if it needs something.

As said earlier, the other notable thing that babies do well is sucking. Again, this is a survival instinct that these little humans were given at birth. The purpose of sucking is to get the milk from the mother’s mammary glands but the babies really don’t know it by then.

Those cute little things actually cannot perceive yet what is in front of their mouths. What they do is they just suck into anything placed near their mouths. That is what the Creator programmed into the mind of these little angels.

Now, as we grow up, we are supposed to learn a lot of things beyond just crying and sucking. We are supposed to use word and actions to show our feelings and needs instead of merely crying out loud.

With regards to food, we learn how to chew solid foods. Later on in life we are supposed to learn how to hunt, gather, and produce our own food. Sucking must be forgotten, because only babies do that.

And that my friends is our simple analysis of why people say “you suck” when you mess things up or fail to do things the way adults must do.

One of the best ways to avoid being a sucker is to learn things of course. Helping you learn adult things is one of the main goals of this website so stick around and let us learn more.
